Dance competitions are an exciting and competitive way for dancers to showcase their talent and skills. In Brisbane and surrounds, there are several dance competitions held throughout the year that attract dancers from all over Queensland. These competitions provide a platform for dancers to display their technical abilities, creativity, and art istry to a wider audience.

Here are some major local dance competitions in Brisbane and surrounds:

1. Brisbane Dance Festival: This festival takes place in July and includes competitions for all styles of dance, as well as workshops and performances from professional dancers.

2. Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge: This competition takes place in June and includes events for ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, tap, and hip hop. It is open to both amateur and professional dancers.

3. Gold Coast Eistoddfod: While not strictly in Brisbane, this yearly event in July and features all styles of dance, including solo competitions and group performances.

4. Ipswich Dance Eisteddfod: This eisteddfod was established in1936 and includes events for ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, tap, and hip hop. It runs in June.

5. Born to Perform Queensland Festival: This competition held in Redcliffe is for all styles of dance and includes events for both solo and group performers. It takes place in July.

6. Toowoomba Eisteddfod: This eisteddfod includes events for ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop and is open to dancers of all ages and abilities. It runs in May.

7. Sunshine Coast Dance Eisteddfod: Although not located in Brisbane, this eisteddfod is a popular event for dancers throughout South East Queensland. It is held annually in April.

8. Redlands Eisteddfod: This eisteddfod includes competitions for all styles of dance, as well as vocal and instrumental categories. It takes place in August and September.

Many dance competitions take place in multiple locations throughout Australia, giving dancers the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of diverse audiences. These competitions serve as a platform for talented dancers to not only perform but also to hone their skills and gain valuable experience. With multiple locations, more dancers can participate and compete, making the competition even more challenging and exciting. These competitions usually culminate in a final that winners from regional competitions are invited to attend.

1. Dance Life Unite Competition, Brisbane, July 22 -23 – A national dance competition that brings together dancers of all ages and styles to compete and showcase their skills.


2. Showcase National Dance Championships, Brisbane, January – A high-energy competition that focuses on team dancing and chore ography, with categories for groups of all sizes and skill levels.


3. Dancesport Championships – A nationally recognized ball room dance competition that includes categories for latin, standard, and new vogue styles.


4. Get The Beat National Finals, Caloundra – September 24 – October 1– A multi-genre dance competition that includes solos, duos, trios, and group performances, with awards for both technical ability and artistic expression.
